EME Systems offers a variety of batteries and a precision gel-cel battery charger. These batteries and the charger can be used for application with EME Systems products or with other instruments.

Rechargeable sealed gel-cell batteries

These rechargeable sealed gel-cell batteries can be operated in any position, and they function from -20 to +60 degrees C, to operate the OWL data logger or other equipment. The service life is typically 5 years, depending on the depth of discharge and on the quality and timeliness of recharging. The OWL data logger The OWL2 data logger can operate off of either 6 or 12 volts DC. Certain external equipment (Tensiometers or turbidometers for example) requires 12 volts.

12 volt, 2.3 amp-hour

This is the battery recommended for the OWL2 in the /fiberglass enclosure, when 12 volts is required by external probes such as the irrometer or tensiometer. The OWL itself can operate on either 6 or 12 volts.

  • 7 x 2.3 x 1.25 inches. 33 ounces
  • connections via 3/16 inch faston tabs, spaced 6 inches apart on the top.
  • charging at 25 degrees Celsius:
    • float charge at 13.8 volts at 20 degrees Celsius. Temperature compensate (-0.025 volts per deg. C), i.e. 13.3 volts at 40 deg. C, 14.3 volts at 0 deg. C.
    • cycle fast charge at 14.6 volts, <0.5 amps. Temperature compensate (-0.025 volts per deg. C), i.e., 14.1 volts at 40 deg. C, 15.1 volts at 0 deg. C. Switch to float when I<40 milliamps.

12 volt, 2.3 amp-hour gel cel battery
 

6 volt, 3.2 amp-hour

This is the battery recommended for the OWL2 in the /fiberglass enclosure, when 6 volts can operate everything in the system. The OWL itself can operate on either 6 or 12 volts.

  • 5 x 2.3 x 1.25 inches. 17 ounces
  • connections via 3/16 inch faston tabs, spaced 4 inches apart on the top.
  • charging at 25 degrees Celsius:
    • float charge at 13.8 volts at 20 degrees Celsius. Temperature compensate (-0.025 volts per deg. C), i.e. 13.3 volts at 40 deg. C, 14.3 volts at 0 deg. C.
    • cycle fast charge at 14.6 volts, <0.7 amps. Temperature compensate (-0.025 volts per deg. C), i.e., 14.1 volts at 40 deg. C, 15.1 volts at 0 deg. C. Switch to float when I<60 milliamps.
